On a 6% rally day, Covered Calls look like the perfect compromise: keep the stock, collect the premium. But the real cost of a CC isn't margin — it's the freedom to sell your stock for the next few weeks. Using a real RGTI decision and the TRON trap that locked 1,700 shares for nine months, this guide lays out how to use CCs as an exit tool without getting trapped.

On 10/14 RGTI fell to $12.12, leaving the 14.5P two days to expiry and deep in the money (Δ −0.98). Assignment meant 400 shares ≈ 60% of NLV plus negative cash — the accident line. At 10:03 ET, a single BAG order: bought back 14.5P×2 @ $2.34, sold 14.0P JAN 2027×2 @ $2.76 — net credit $84, old leg settled at −$390.74, obligation downgraded and pushed 93 days out. The cost, stated plainly: the new leg is still ~15% ITM with Δ −0.58, so assignment remains the base case. Includes the three-path comparison and the follow-up trigger lines.

On 10/12 NOK fell to $10.08 (−2.7%), compressing the time value of two covered calls — the 12C×5 sold on 9/18 shrank from $0.44 to $0.10, and the 12.5C×10 sold on 10/3 from $0.163 to $0.05. The pre-earnings exit window was planned for 10/15–21; the conditions arrived early. Two limit buy-backs at 09:53 and 11:47 ET on 10/12: +$270.13 total (broker realized P&L, incl. $9.49 fees). Last 20–30% of premium converted into cash — before the 10/22 earnings and 10/23 expiry.

A 24-Hour NOK Day Trade: Bought the Panic, Sold the Rebound, Handed the Structure Back to Discipline
October 8, US session — a sector-wide pullback knocked NOK down 4.5%, not one headline of its own; at 14:01 I bought JUN 2027 10C ×10 at $2.050 in four clicks. The next day NOK rebounded +3% and the new lot was up 12% in a day — but cash at $775, maintenance margin at 69.9% and LEAP concentration at ~70% had all crossed their lines. Under the risk rules the lot went back at $2.24: cash basis +$175.05, settlement basis −$330.72. A 24-hour round trip — entries are a gift from the tape; exits are a demand from discipline.

October 6, US Eastern — a big-up day for Nokia, and two clicks 32 minutes apart: at 11:17 the OCT 9 $10 puts ×5 came back at $0.04 ($0.263 → $0.04, net banked +$107.94); at 11:49 the NOV 20 $13 calls ×5 went out at $0.32 (net $156.20 collected). One old lease redeemed at a 15% residual, one new lease written at the 13 strike with a 21% cushion — and from today, all 20 LEAPs are leased, 20/20. This entry covers why a pure seller closes before opening, the pricing on both legs, and what the board looks like now.

October 1, US session — two buyback clicks. 10:39 AM ET: NOK Oct 2 $10 puts ×5 back at $0.05; 11:34: RGTI Oct 9 $18 calls ×2 back at $0.10. Combined net banked: +$129.78. One leg came from the September 22 three-tier put sale; the other was the covered call sitting on the RGTI shares. This entry covers the full life of each leg, the $48.85 price of leaving early, and what remains on the board.

On September 28 (US Eastern), 11:15 — 23:15 Beijing — I bought back the last 10 contracts of my NOK Oct 2 $11 call. The $0.03 limit never got a seller; the fill came at $0.04, $43.20 all-in including fees, banking +$114.80. This entry covers why "clearing an obligation" is the only right move in a RED account, what the gap between $0.03 and $0.04 is really about, and what is left on the Nokia board.

Starting from 31 million kronor in 1900 and paying prizes for more than a century, the Nobel Foundation's invested capital now stands at about 6.7 billion kronor. One formula explains it all — return above spending, and the principal grows itself. It is the same math behind my options cash-flow system.
